Comex copper for December delivery was off 11.85 cents, or 3.6 percent, at $3.1365 a lb, near the bottom of its $3.1350 to $3.2920 trading range. Copper down in sympathy with the energy and precious metals markets, as investors seen taking profits in the face of a firm dollar and growing uncertainties surrounding the US government's $700 billion bailout plan, analysts said.
Comex estimated 11:00 am volume at 8,727 lots.
