The rupee failed to maintain rising trend against dollar on the currency market on Thursday, dealers said. In the interbank market the rupee lost 10 paisa in relation to the US currency for buying and selling at 78.25 and 78.30, they said. Strong buying by the importers pushed dollar demand up and it seems that the rate may move both ways in the coming days, they added.
In the fourth session of trade dollar extended losses against euro, after data showed the pace of existing US home sales fell last month while home prices saw a record drop. The euro rose as high as $1.4738 following the data, from about $1.4719 just before. The currency last traded at $1.4727, up 0.6 percent from late on Tuesday.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed 25 against dollar for buying at 78.20 while it maintained its overnight levle for selling at 78.50, dealers said. The rupee drifted lower against euro, losing 48 paisa for buying at Rs 113.38 and it also fell by 43 paisa for selling at Rs 113.48, they added.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee showed marginal recovery and appreciated its worth by 10 paisa against the US dollar in the open currency market on Thursday. The dollar's demand could not remain intact that helped rupee recover some of its earlier loss. At the end of trading, the dollar closed lower at Rs 78.30 and Rs 78.60 on buying and selling sides against the Wednesday closing of Rs 78.40 and Rs 78.70, respectively. However, the rupee could not get out of pressure and further declined against the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates improved from the overnight closing of Rs 143.50 and Rs 144.50 to Rs 144.00 and Rs 145.00, respectively.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar showed an increase of 20 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday. The dollar opened at Rs 78.00 (buying) and Rs 78.10 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 77.80 (buying) and Rs 77.90 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 78.00 (buying) and Rs 78.10 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 144.00 (buying) and Rs 144.50 (selling) against the last rate of Rs 143.00 (buying) and Rs 143.50 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 144.00 (buying) and Rs 144.50 (selling).
