Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday adjourned the hearing of review petition regarding allegedly illegal detention of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan for October 6. Single member bench of Sardar Muhammad Aslam is hearing the review petition filed by Barrister Iqbal Jaffery counsel for Dr Khan.
It is likely that the court would decide the amenability of the petition at next hearing. The petitioner had contented that government is not complying with court orders to end of Dr Khan's confinement. The government is neither allowing Dr Khan to meet his friends or relatives nor is letting him move freely owing to security concerns. The applicant has prayed that the nuclear scientist has allegedly been kept under detention against the verdict of the court.
He said that a number of Dr Khan's friends have tried to meet him but they are not being allowed to meet him. Earlier, on July 21 the court in its judgement had barred Dr Khan from speaking on the issues of proliferation but had allowed to meet his relatives, friends and move freely following some provisions regarding security arrangements.
The next day, Jaffery had filed a review petition in IHC against its judgement to end Dr Khan's confinement with adherence to some stipulations. Talking to the media, Jaffery said the government is committing contempt of court for not complying with the IHC orders and has kept Dr Khan in confinement. Dr Khan has the right to lead his life as a free citizen of the country and I am hopeful to win this right for him, he added.
