Pakistan will host 10th ECO summit next year, Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi announced on Thursday in New York. Speaking at the informal meeting of ECO Council of Ministers held in New York on the sidelines of 63rd Session of UN General Assembly, Qureshi said the summit will be preceded by the Council of Ministers' meeting.
Dates for the summit will be ascertained through normal diplomatic channels. The Foreign Minister also said that Pakistan looked forward to participation of ECO member states in the summit at the highest political level.
He also recalled that hosting the tenth ECO summit would be a especial privilege for the democratic government led by the Pakistan People's Party, as the third ECO summit hosted by Pakistan in March 1995 was chaired by late Benazir Bhutto. The Council of the Ministers meeting, chaired by the Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, was attended by Foreign Ministers and senior officials of ECO member states.
