The government has asked the international community not to suspend issuance of visas and flights to Pakistan, as foreign missions have been provided manifold security blanket. The Special Security Committee has been directed by the prime minister to beef up security for foreign diplomats, envoys and their offices, said Rehman Malik, advisor to Prime Minister on Interior, here on Friday.
He was chairing a meeting called on the request of the diplomatic community. It was attended by the diplomats from European countries while US ambassador was also present.
Rehman Malik briefed the diplomats about the measures taken by the government to ensure safety and security of the diplomatic missions and their staff. They were particularly sensitised about the ongoing plans to enhance the security of both the federal capital and diplomatic community.
Rehman Malik informed the foreign diplomats and envoys that initially the government deployed police for their security, while FC personnel and rangers would also be deployed in addition to police for the security of diplomats and envoys in the country.
He further said state-of-the-art equipment have been purchased from China to combat terrorist activities. The diplomats appreciated the efforts of the government, expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and thanked Rehman Malik for his keen interest in their security. Meanwhile, Rehman Malik appreciated the good work of Federal Civilian Intelligence Agency and CID for averting a big disaster in Karachi.
