A photographic exhibition was organised by Sarhad Tourism Corporation (STC) in connection with the celebration of the World Tourism Day on (September 27), at Green Hut, near Garrison Park.
NWFP Minister for Sports, Culture and Tourism, Syed Aqil Shah, VC of UET Peshawar, GM STC, Secretary Sports, Fazale Amin, renowned archaeologist, Fidaullah Sehrahi, Dr Jamil-ur-Rehman of KMC Hiking Club and a large number of enthusiasts and competitors also attended the show.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the province is generously blessed with an exceptionally beautiful landscape and resplendent sights full of awesome natural beauty.
He said, its superb geography makes it far more distinct in many ways, moreover, what adds to its grand treasure of tourist attraction are lush green valleys, elegant plains, snow covered towering serene lakes and enchanting rivers.
All these make this region a romantic abode of extra ordinary natural beauty arousing the tourists' sense of aesthetic and bringing forth a world of unparalleled visual beauty, he remarked. As for eco-tourism, he said, the province is luckily far rich in having some of pockets for breeding certain rare and precious species of animals and birds.
Further, it possesses a rich and distinct cultural heritage with immense potential for development of its tourism sector. VC, UET, Imtiaz Hussain Gillani appreciated STC for involving young kids in such activities that could help them in getting awareness about climate change.
The VC also said climate change is a universal challenge and the tourism community has certainly agreed to its impact on human in particular. "We have to focus on tourism's role in the global climate in solidarity with other sectors. As one of the principle services, exports in the world's poorest and emerging countries, tourism has the potential to act effectively on the common cause of climate change response, linking it closely with the fight against poverty,' he said.
The need of the hour is to raise awareness on the positive role of tourism in sustainable socio-economic development, he said. Besides mountain bike competitions, collecting of waste trekking was held while 112 kids participated in the photo exhibition.
