Senior Punjab Minister, Raja Riaz Ahmad has said that the government will restore public confidence over government schools and added that excellent facilities will be provided to promote primary and secondary level education.
The educational development programme has been aimed to provide conducive educational atmosphere, improved infrastructural facilities and better standard of education to the students, he told. Addressing an educational workshop at a local hotel, the Senior Minister told that government will set up computer labs in 4,574 secondary and higher secondary schools for providing free I.T education to the students.
A sum of Rs 5 billion has been allocated for this project, he told. Raja Riaz said that government is spending a sum of Rs 2.5 billion for providing improved educational environment in the schools and missing facilities are being arranged.
Likewise, a sum of Rs 1 billion is being utilised for the upgradation of schools on priority basis, he told. The purpose is to ensure best possible ambience for the students and to improve the standard of education. The Senior Minister maintained that government is giving utmost priority to the women education as well and told that 560 girls' middle schools will be upgraded to high school level with an amount of Rs 2 billion. In addition to that, he told, 542 boys schools will also be upgraded with an amount of Rs 1.91 billion.
Equal importance is being given to the schooling of special children, he told. Promotion of education helps to achieve the goal of composite national development and NGOs should play a proactive role in this regard by setting up literacy centres in remote hinterlands, he concluded. The workshop was also addressed by educationists and intellectuals who presented proposals for the betterment of education.
