Department of Tourist Services, Federal Ministry of Tourism has cancelled seven more licenses of travel agents and tour operators for non-payment of annual renewal fee, submission of bank guarantee and violation of rules and regulations.
Provincial Chief, Deputy Controller, Tourist Services, Punjab region, Muhammad Nasim Laber told APP on Sunday that all defaulters were reminded several times to clear the payment of renewal fee but no positive response was received.
"There was no other option-except to cancel it,' he said adding that the licences were cancelled in a transparent manner and in line with the government policy across Punjab province except of Rawalpindi Division.
Laber said that out of nearly 1000 registered travel agents and tour operators, 75 percent are engaged in conducting tours for Umra and Haj while remaining are concerned with air ticketing. He said that a special counter has been established on the directive of the provincial chief to facilitate the travel agents and tour operators through one window operation.
Meanwhile Assistant Controller, Tourist Services, Federal Ministry of Tourism, Incharge licensing section, Punjab, Wazir Ahmad Bosan has warned all other travel agents and tour operators to clear their financial liabilities towards the department otherwise their licences will be cancelled.
