Commodities wholesale markets stayed closed on the opening day supplied not a single variation though on other days rates had fluctuated both ways, some items soaring during the week ended on September 27, 2008. Monday was closed on account on youm-e-Hazrat Ali.
On Tuesday when session began Khandsari and til showed sharp rise amid few changes while Jodia Bazaar furnished no variations. The day however saw til prices going higher by Rs 200 to Rs 3600, while better type showed at Rs 4000. On the cereals side Khandsari gained by Rs 100 to Rs 2700, while sugar and gur stayed put. On the rice side Irri 6 Sindh gave away Rs 60 to Rs 3040 while other types staying unchanged on the day.
On Wednesday til continue upward move while urad followed suit. The retailers were a few on the market owing to helplessness they were facing on arranging heavy loads on the eve of Eid and subsequent three days closures. Til again rose by Rs 200 to Rs 3800, while the other variety was quoted higher at Rs 4200, castorseed Lasbela quoted at Rs 1450 and Rs 1500 urad Burma inferior type gained Rs 50 to Rs 1900, while the other type rose by Rs 150 to Rs 2050. On Thursday the solo change recorded was that of Irri 6 that lost Rs 140 to Rs 2900.
On Friday grain and seeds markets remained closed on account of Juma-tul-Vtda.
On Saturday the supply position was tight pushing prices of a few items up. Til was higher by Rs 20 at Rs3800-4200, urad Burma inferior type was up by Rs 50 to Rs 1900 and better type by Rs 150 to Rs 2050. Sugar low type picked up Rs 100 to Rs3100 and better type was higher by Rs 80 to Rs 3380. Irri 6 Sindh gained Rs 140 to Rs 2900.
