The Interior Ministry has called in Rangers to reinforce the Capital Police and other law-enforcement agencies to maintain law and order on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Rangers, along-with Islamabad Police, have taken charge of security and started checking vehicles at entry points of the capital. Over 80 police pickets have been erected at all important entry and exit points of the capital.
More than 2,500 personnel of Islamabad police will guard main sectors of the city, wherein ITP personnel will be supported by 100 mobile patrolling vehicles.
The security in capital has been tightened in the wake of terrorist threats and intelligence reports about the presence of suicide bombers in the city.
Advisor to the Prime Minister Rehman Malik has issued strict instructions to the police officials to make sure that there will be no loophole in the security system.
Rehman Malik directed the police and other law-enforcement agencies to be more vigilant in checking people, entering the capital. He said that no vehicle without checking would be allowed to enter the capital. "All the vehicles, coming to the capital, will be thoroughly checked and if it did not stop at the check points, the police will forcibly stop it by firing on the tyres of the vehicle," he said.
The sources told Business Recorder that Islamabad police had chalked out a comprehensive security plan and cancelled the holidays of Islamabad police to ensure the security. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raza Gardezi will supervise the security plan, while Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) will check the pickets and patrolling officials in their respective areas.
