Organic waste like vegetable and fruit peels are now being converted into animal feed in a clean and hygienic manner. This was stated by Nargis Latif of Gulbahao, an NGO, which has developed the project relating to animal feed, called "Choora Chara."
During her meeting with Mrs Tauqeer Fatima Bhutto, Sindh Minister for Women's Development here last week Nargis Latif gave a presentation with the help of slides and photographs, showing different processes through which organic waste passes, the feed is manufactured and finally packaged to give it a shelf life of weeks and even months. The methodology is simple and cost effective and much superior to what the cattle get at the garbage dumps.
A detailed presentation was also given on the concept of "Chandi Ghar," a low cost housing project. Gulbahao is planning a pilot project called "Busti Benazeer" where practical demonstration of Gulbahao innovations would be demonstrated in real life situation.
This "busti" would be a pilot project for disaster management and rehabilitation. Nargis Latif said that some time ago she met two directors of Clinton Foundation, ie Christopher Godlove and Alex Hurd and had discussions with them about waste management project of the NGO. Godlove was particularly impressed with the Chandi Ghar (which is made of inorganic waste) and admitted that it was unique in the world.
