Interior Ministry has asked the provinces and law enforcement agencies to enhance their efforts to trace the hoax callers, who are creating panic situation and take strict action against them.
The Ministry has asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) to launch a massive crackdown against the hoax calls and callers in collaboration with other intelligence agencies to bring this practice to an immediate end, sources in Interior Ministry told Business Recorder on Monday.
Increasing number of hoax calls has caused terrible problems for the law enforcement agencies and common people across the country. Hoax calls regarding entry of suicide bomber at Benazir International Airport, Faisal Mosque and Islamabad Hotel in the capital had created panic.
They said that it was decided that the operation against callers will initially be launched in all major cities, including twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
They said that at present there is Telegraph Act available to counter threats and unwanted calls made by landline or cell phones. Under the telegraph act a hoax caller could be sentenced to jail for six months, however, the law enforcement agencies had prepared strict action against the hoax callers, they said.
