National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec) has chalked out a comprehensive plan to impart training to over 100,000 youth during the current financial year 2008-09 under Prime Minister's Hunarmand Programme.
For the purpose, an amount of Rs2 billion has been earmarked during current financial year to execute development projects, said Chairman, Navtec, Adnan A Khawaja.
In his letter, addressed to all relevant Members of National Assembly and the four Provincial Assemblies, he said the Commission has already provided technical training to over 70,000 youth. He also sought active involvement and support of public representatives for the success of Navtec's training programmes.
Khawaja said that supervision and involvement of legislators in Navtec's training programmes in their constituencies would have a positive impact and help enhance the credibility of the Commission.
Further, he said without their supervision and co-operation it may be difficult to achieve the set targets. Underlining the importance of technical and vocational training, the Chairman observed that technical training plays important role in vibrant economies particularly of developing countries like Pakistan.
The present government attaches high priority to skill development as a mandatory input in the economic growth, he added. Annexing the details of training programmes currently in progress in various constituencies, with the letter, Navtec Chairman asked relevant legislators to provide feedback to enable Navtec to take necessary steps for improving the programmes.
