An election tribunal, headed by a judge of the Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned till October 30 the proceedings in an election petition filed against former Chief Minister Punjab and Member National Assembly, Mian Manzoor Wattoo as his counsel sought adjournment.
Petitioner, Rao Muhammad Ajmal, said that he had obtained 46,006 votes while his opponent Manzoor Wattoo secured 46,941 votes. He said different presiding officers rejected 5,686 votes and returning officers while consolidating result gave undue advantage to respondent Wattoo and did not examine the rejected votes.
He alleged that Wattoo's son Khurram Wattoo was Town Nazim and used local body's machinery to secure a victory for his father. Petitioner also alleged that his polling agents were also threatened to help respondent in manipulating ballot papers. He requested to the court that Manzoor Wattoo should be de-seated and declared as return candidate.
