Terrorists, robbers, thieves and other criminals are at large in the guise of beggars in Multan and rest of the Southern Punjab. Though the government and law enforcing agencies are putting strenuous efforts to fight terrorism however sans proper attention to crowd of beggars risking every individual's security.
The police and the district administration claimed to have tightened security wrap to counter any untoward incident following a row of deadly blasts across the country, especially in Bhakkar, Charsadda and Islamabad.
All their efforts seem to be just a paperwork, as they have not succeeded in end the menace of beggars, who can enter into or leave any area including high-security zones.
Despite many campaigns and efforts made by the district administration, the issue of professional begging remained unabated in the commercial, residential areas, hospitals, bus stands and at different traffic signals of the city. In some residential areas, people complained that dacoits clothed as beggars are enjoying their act of crime without any security check.
It is unbelievable that how could the administration allow them crowding on the roads? Earlier, the district administration initiated several campaigns against beggars but failed to control their open movement in the city. Though traffic wardens and other police personnel could be witnessed everywhere in the city, it seems that they are unaware of the presence of beggars due to some reasons best known to the officials.
Beggars of different age groups including male and females usually rush to vehicles at almost every traffic signals on Chungi NO.9 , SP chowk, Kalima Chowk, Nawan Shehr and create serious road risk not only for drivers but for their own lives as well. They can be noticed using different tactics to extract money from the people and sometimes use abusive language on one's denial. It has also become a civic issue as they adopt new tactics like newspapers selling, wiping car glasses and some of them show fake or stolen medical certificates to melt the hearts of the people to earn money.
Some of them are seen asking the people for donations for different religious institutions and issue a donation receipt for every donation at different bus stands of the city. The issue has taken the citizens with a highest order of civic as well as security threats. Therefore, it is the right time that the governmental administration should come up with a concert plan to clean up the menace.
