Chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has expressed reservations on the army briefing to the parliament during the in-camera session, saying the briefing has failed to cover the issue in detail.
Talking to media persons here on Sunday, he said that he expected of getting a chance during the session on Monday (today) to speak on the overall situation especially of Fata and NWFP. "I expect that speaker National Assembly will give us a chance to speak on the issue and we will inform the military leadership about the real issues," he added.
He said that General Musharraf made the policies in haste without consulting the political leadership. He (Musharraf) made the policies while being under immense pressure from Washington. These policies were bound to fail, Maulana Fazal asserted. He said that during his speech in the joint session, he would uncover those aspects, which remained unexplored during the briefing by military. He said that "so called" counter-terrorism military operations would not serve any purpose for the betterment of the country and the nation.
These operations were launched by Musharraf in a bid to please the US. There was ulterior motive behind these. The government must know that the operations are benefiting the US and not Pakistan, Fazal said. Responding to a question, he said that the JUI had strong reservations on Bajaur operation.
"Terrorism is not an issue of Pakistan or Afghanistan. Certainly, there is a need of having regional co-operation to fight out this menace. All the regional countries should join hands for this purpose," the JUI-F chief said.
