Around 500 cases of missing children have been reported during the last eight months of 2008. This was stated by Zia Awan, President, Lawyers for Human Rights and Legal Aid center (LHRLA) and Madadgaar in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
The provincial break-up of statistics shows that 39 cases of missing children were reported from Balochistan, 209 from NWFP, 158 from Punjab and 94 from Sindh. Research shows that cases of missing children are prevalent all over the country but comparatively more cases of missing were reported from NWFP. Among major cities Peshawar is at top of the list with 210 cases reported for missing children, while Islamabad comes second with 70 cases reported for missing children. In Karachi the number of reported cases is 69, Lahore reports 53,Hub reports 39 and Multan reports 24 cases.-PR
