Time is ripe for taking 'bold decisions' by the government to meet the challenges confronted to the country as well as nation on political and economic fronts.
This was stated by the PML-N leaders while reacting to current situation of the country. Pakistan Muslim League (N) secretary general Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has hoped that a parliamentary committee to be formed after comprehensive debate during the current joint parliamentary session would devise an "anti-terrorism strategy".
He said the issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the country was now before the parliament, which would tackle it. The lawmakers had already been given an operational briefing and now the government was expected to give a briefing on policy after which suggestions would be put forward, he added.
It may be mentioned that the in-camera briefing earlier lasted for two days in which DG Military Operations gave briefing to members parliament regarding current law and order situation of the country, ongoing operation in the tribal areas and in Swat and situation related to areas bordering Afghanistan.
DG Military Operations also responded to questions asked by the members of parliament. The in-camera briefing of the Parliament would resume on Tuesday after intermission of three days. In the in-camera meeting Federal Minister for Broadcasting and Information, Sherry Rehman will give briefing to parliamentarians over law and order situation in the country.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Secretary General on International Affairs, Sheikh Kaiser Mehmood has said that panacea of all ills facing the country lies in strengthening parliamentary democracy. Mehmood said: "All dictators' right from Ayub Khan to Pervez Musharraf failed in their designs to crush democratic forces." He said Pakistan had come into being as a result of democratic process and dictatorship can never overwhelm democracy, as it is supported by masses.
He said Pervez Musharraf, who claimed to be very popular among the masses, is strongly hated by the people for his dubious and ill conceived polices that pushed Pakistan to inferno of terrorism, lawlessness and economic morass. He said Pervez Musharraf would be remembered in the history as the one who on foreign dictation killed his own people.
He said Pervez Musharraf's action in tribal areas and killings of innocent students of Jamia Hafsa amounted to treachery and coming generations would hate him. Another PML-N leader Muhammad Nasir Iqbal Khan called for initiating dialogue in tribal areas doing away with use of force to achieve the objective of restoration of peace. Rulers should rid the country of policies of Pervez Musharraf to ensure peace and tranquillity, he insisted.
