The residents of Peshawar city and its suburban rural areas are braving hours long unannounced and unscheduled power load shedding, making their lives of the people miserable. While the residents of the city facing more than eight hours load shedding, the rural areas have to brave it for more than 15 hours in 24-hours.
The massive load shedding has created water scarcity in almost every locality in the city. Besides, the long power outages have hampered educational activities, as schoolgoing children are facing difficulties in completion of their homework. The load shedding has increased the sale of the candles, prices of which have went up as the shopkeepers are selling the commodity at exorbitant prices.
According to a spokesman of Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco), the company is resorting only six-load shedding. However, in rural areas, it is 16 to 20 hours. Besides, there are reports of low voltage and power fluctuations, causing damage to electronic appliances, including television sets, refrigerators, air-conditioners and other gagets. The localities of Jehangirabad, University Town, Haji Camp, Dabgari, Rasheedabad, Gulbahar, Faqirabad and some areas of Gunj that have been included in the rural feeder of Hazarkhwani are the worst affected.
The reports of the massive load shedding were also received from districts of Mardan, Charsadda, Kohat and Swabi. Staging protest rallies against the load shedding and unannounced power load shedding has become a routine matter in these districts.
