Media experts at a one-day workshop here on Friday described the innovation journalism as an important instrument for the sustainable economic development as well as progress and prosperity. The one-day workshop on "Innovation Journalism," was organised by Competitiveness Support Fund for the capacity building of the journalists.
This was the first workshop of its kind organised by CSF in Pakistan and the fund intends to organise such like workshops in other parts of the country. Next workshop would be held in Karachi soon. The CSF innovation journalism has been in operation since 2006 which assists in bridging the gap between technology and business reporting in Pakistan, as well as the gap between reporting in Pakistan and that done in some of the leading developed countries.
Speaking on the occasion, CSF Chief Executive Officer, Arthur Bayhan said that the fund was holding various innovation journalism conferences and workshops for the journalists in collaboration with the innovation journalism programme at the Standford University. He said that purpose of the programmes is to create understanding of innovation processes, experience different journalism cultures and broaden participants' journalistic horizons.
He expressed the hope that Pakistani journalists who acquire training while working with US media organisation would share their experience with their other fellows about what they have learnt. Speaking on the occasion, Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer Sama television gave detailed briefing about the innovative journalism and elaborated how it could help bring about the development changes in the country.
He said that the purpose of the workshop was to sensitise the journalists about the importance of innovative journalism for the development of any country. Senior journalists Zamir Haider, Phyza Jamil and Khaleeq Kiyani shared their experience on working with various organisation in the United States.
They were of the view that innovation journalism was a must at this crucial time to help the country head towards economic development. A recorded message from David Nordford, Founder and Director Innovation Journalism Programme at Stanford University USA and Senior Research scholar of the university for the innovation journalism was also played on the occasion.
