A 78-year-old man died after attempting to ram his SUV into a law firm in the southern state of Georgia on Friday and detonating explosive items in his vehicle, local police said. Four people were injured in the blast. The bombing "is believed to have resulted from an issue the suspect had with the law firm" and is not a case of terrorism, said Special Agent Scott Sweetow with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF).
Police said in a statement that Lloyd Sylvester Cantrell "attempted to ram his SUV into the building of the McCamy, Phillips, Tuggle and Fordham law firm," in the town of Dalton around 10 am Friday. "As the first police officer arrived on the scene, a bomb exploded at the back of the building," the statement read.
"The suspected bomber, Mr Cantrell, died at the scene. The police officer was not injured." Four victims at the law firm were rushed to a nearby hospital. Since then two were released, one was admitted to the hospital and one was flown to a burn center in the city of Augusta, Georgia, the statement said.
A police robot worked throughout the day to "clear out items from Mr Cantrell's vehicle ... which includes gasoline, natural gas and propane." Dalton Police Chief Jason Parker "said there are no other suspects and that the composition of the (explosive) device is unknown."
