Deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will attend the meeting of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) to be held in the Supreme Court building here on Monday (today). Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has been invited to attend the meeting by president SCBA Aitzaz Ahsan.
This will be first time that the deposed chief justice will visit the SC building after his removal following the clampdown of emergency rule in November 3 last year by the then army chief General Pervez Musharraf.
Talking to media persons at Benazir Bhutto International Airport after arrival from Karachi accompanying deposed chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Aitzaz said that the deposed chief justice will attend the photo session of the executive council of the SCBA.
Iftikhar Chaudhry's entry at the SC building might infuse a new life to the fading lawyers' movement aimed at reinstating the deposed CJ and other judges. Meanwhile, the lawyers, who were at the airport to receive Iftikhar Chudhry, misbehaved with senior lawyer Sharifuddin Pirzada. The lawyers were furious and they were raising slogans against Pirzada, who acted as close legal aide to Musharraf during his eight years long rule.
The law enforcement agencies came to the rescue of the senior lawyer and he was taken to his vehicle. Former SCBA president and prominent leader of Lawyers' movement former Justice Tariq Mehmood condemned the incident, saying that such incident could not be supported.
He asked the lawyers not to create a rift and show unity, as the struggle for restoration of independent judiciary is not far from its destination.
