The Punjab government has confiscated fake agriculture medicines worth Rs 260 million in a period of last four months, said Punjab Agriculture Minister Ahmed Ali Aulakh on Sunday. Talking to state-run television he said short and long term measures have been taken in collaboration with federal government to tackle wheat shortage.
It has been decided to double the supply of certified water efficient seed to the farmers. The potential of new seed is from 60 to 70 maunds per acre. A new kind of cotton seed is also being introduced while target of cotton production has been fixed at 18 million bales as compared to 11 million bales last year, he said.
The targets of wheat production has been fixed to 20 million tonnes. Last year 16 million tonnes of wheat was produced in Punjab. All relevant departments have been alerted to meet the targets of wheat production.
Rs 2 billion subsidy has been offered to green tractor scheme aiming to enhance production, while a sum of Rs 5.4 million subsidy has been offered to farmers on purchase of agricultural machinery, he added.
