Leader of the house in Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Sunday said that the government is following the peaceful means of negotiations for resolution of the problem of militancy and extremism in Waziristan and other parts of the tribal region of the country.
Addressing 3rd workshop of the series streamlining Fata held under the auspices of Shaheed Bhutto Foundation (SBF), he said that present government, since the very inception, has advocated for peaceful means for seeking political solution to the problem.
Other speakers included spokesman PPP, former Senator Farhatullah Babar, President, Bhutto Shaheed Foundation, Dr Mohammad Kamal while Senator Abdul Rahim Mandokhel of the Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PMAP) was keynote speaker on the occasion.
Pointing towards the division of the participants into three groups of Defining, Developing and Democratising Fata a theme for dividing the participants of the workshop to prepare recommendations for resolution of the problems of the tribal region, he said that the government is also following three Ds that are dialogue, development and deterrence.
The government, he said follows the path of negotiations and development and opts for resorting to the use of force when there remain no options other than the force. "We fully understand that the resolution of the problem would be only through political means," said Mr Rabbani.
He said that they will never allow violation of the integrity and geographical unity adding that no power in the world including Nato or any other force has right to carry out actions inside Pakistan.
All top officials of the present government from President to Prime Minister have assured all in clear-cut terms that Pakistan will not allow any one to violate its aerial and geographical borders.
Senator Raza Rabbani said that the whole country has been affected by the situation in the Fata and till finding durable political solution controlling the situation would be difficult. "The situation in Fata had got centre of the stage today to which the integrity of the federation of Pakistan was directly connected," added the PPP leader.
He said it was very clear in the prevailing peculiar situation that no imported solution would work there till it based in light of the history and situation in the region. Such solution would only work for time being, but it would be neither durable nor reflect the aspirations of the people. The history, he said is witness, that such political solutions, which lack backing of the people could not prevail for longer. The second clear message was that military action is no solution to the prevailing situation in Fata. "The approach of the resolution of the problem through one or two military actions is not the right approach," contended the Senator.
