Inspector General National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Muhammad Raffat Pasha has urged the senior officers of the NH&MP to ensure safe driving on the motorways and national highways to make secure the life and property of the people.
"Officers make sure to check the over speeding at night on motorways to avoid the accidents", Pasha said while addressing the DIG Conference. The Conference besides deliberating on different issues analysed the performance of all the DIGs and SSPs critically and issued various directives to ensure safe driving and curb crimes by the highwaymen.
It was observed that the accident rate has been minimised by 3 to 6 per cent in the present quarter and the IG NH&MP further directed that the scientific measures and more steps be taken to ensure minimising accident rate. It is already on the record that the NH&MP has reduced the overall accident rate by 70 per cent.
The NH&MP IG also directed the officials to implement the zero accident policy within the department at all costs. It was also decided during the meeting that every year five officials would be sent on Hajj from the department's welfare fund and enhancing facilities for welfare of the officers and their children. The meeting decided to increase the grant from the Welfare Fund for Shaheed official from Rs 300,000 to Rs 500,000.
Pasha urged officials to enhance awareness regarding traffic rules and other road safety issues through seminars/workshops. He lauded the performance of the motorway zone in arresting six criminal gangs involved in looting the passengers by intoxicating them.
The DIGs Conference decided that Rs 5,000 would be given on every Eid to the family of every deceased official. The IG further directed to ensure Lane Discipline on highways and on motorways to avoid accidents.
