Advisor to Prime Minister on Religious Affairs, Syed Hamid Saeed Qazmi Tuesday said that non-Muslims in Pakistan are enjoying all rights granted by the Constitution and no discrimination is made with them on the basis of religion. Talking to the visiting Rev Canon Anthony Ball, the Archbishop of Canterbury's Secretary for International and Inter Religious Relations.
The Rt Rev Dr Alexander John Malik Bishop of Lahore and Moderator (President Bishop) Church of Pakistan were also present on the occasion. They also offered the Advisor to convene an interfaith conference in UK which would be participated by prominent Ulema from Pakistan and Christian community leaders to promote interfaith harmony and understanding.
The Advisor informed the delegation that Blasphemy law in Pakistan is not aimed at to crush and harass the non Muslims but it is aimed to protect the dignity and respect of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). He said that majority victims of Blasphemy Law are Muslims rather than non Muslims, therefore non Muslims should not be worried about it.
He suggested that there should be a committee comprising prominent Ulema and community leader of non Muslims to settle cases of Blasphemy Law before going to the Court. He underlined the need for promoting interfaith harmony and understanding and appreciated the idea of convening a conference on interfaith harmony in UK.
