District Administration Islamabad has suggested the Interior Ministry to install 'Explosive Detectors and Scanners' at the 21 entry points of Islamabad rather than erecting a wall around the Red Zone. "The installation of scanners would cost around Rs 950 million, which would be very effective rather than erecting a wall around Red Zone," the sources said during talking to APP here on Tuesday.
The source said the wall around Red Zone may effect the beauty of Capital and would have negative impact on the diplomats visiting the country. Meanwhile, the sources within Capital Development Authority (CDA) also agreed that installation of scanners would be very much effective, as the wall would cost around Rs 6 billion to Rs 8 billion. This wall would be against the Master Plan of Islamabad, which would also cut off this area from the Capital.
The sources within CDA and district administration maintained that suggestions from both the organisations have been floated before the government, however, the decision would be made by the Prime Minister after the consultation with the security experts and in the larger security perspective.
Meanwhile, the sources within district administration said that security arrangements in the Federal Capital are being re-visited and reviewed in the wake of prevalent situation in order to ensure the protection of the life and property of the citizens and a comprehensive and effective strategy is being evolved to deal with the situation.
He said that strict security measures are being taken to ensure the protection of life and property of the citizens and in this regard, all available sources are being used to further upgrade and strengthen the security arrangements.
He said that the strength of Islamabad police is being increased as part of enhancing the security arrangements and police would be equipped with sophisticated weapons and the force would be imparted modern training to enhance their professional capabilities in order to meet the challenges of this time. The process of installing CCTV cameras at the exit and entry points has been also expedited, he added.
