Reforms are indispensable in the local government system that would lead to a strong management system and to improve the local government structure, this was stated by Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Federal Minister for Local Government & Rural Development here on Tuesday.
Bilour said that local government system would not be totally abolished due to new reforms, however, some amendments are necessary to improve the local government structure. The minister said this at the closing ceremony of Group Painting Exhibition arranged by Artisan Gallery Islamabad under the theme "Script of the East". He said that the mistakes of the past local governments would be overcome and the system would be made more viable and welfare oriented.
"Law and order situation is getting worse day by day which needed to be managed, but Nazim who is elected for only four years could not overcome these problems single-handedly." The minister said that the country is passing through a critical phase. He said it is encouraging that both treasury and the opposition are co-operating in the best interest of the country.
Regarding the ongoing operation in Fata, he said that we want to stop this war and therefore we preferred negotiations with Taliban. He said that artists are valuable assets. He announced Rs 20000 for the organiser and distributed certificates among the students.
Member of the Advisory Board Laila Zuberi said the government is paying no heed to culture, as we have no separate minister for culture. She demanded of the government to encourage artists as they could play a vital role in displaying the true image of the country.
