The Lahore High Court on Tuesday restraining Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) from disconnecting power supply to Model Town Housing Society, Challenging the excessive bill of Rs 73 million issued notices for October 23. The society, through its counsel Mian Iftikhar, pleaded that it neither defaulted in its 75-year-old history nor it received such a huge bill.
The counsel pointed out that the society received an average bill of Rs 40 million per month, but all of a sudden it surged to Rs 120 million as the Lesco had issued a bill with additional amount of Rs 73 million without any justification.
The counsel argued that the Lesco had not informed the society that under what law and for what reasons it was charging excessive amount of Rs 73 million.
He said the society had never delayed in discharging its legal obligations, as it was evident from the fact that it never defaulted in 75 years of its history.
He further said the society with intent to pay current bill of Rs 40 million had already sent a cheque to the Lesco. The counsel pointed out as October 21 was the last date of payment of the bill and in case of non-payment of excessive bill, the power supply to the society might be disconnected. The court, after hearing petitioner's counsel arguments, issued an interim order till next date of hearing.
