Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafferi, counsel for Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan on Wednesday filed a contempt of court petition at Islamabad High Court (IHC) against Deputy Attorney General (DAG) and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Interior for suspecting authenticity of a letter submitted by Dr Khan in IHC on October 16.
IHC is hearing a review petition regarding alleged non-implementation of an IHC order about easing restrictions on the nuclear scientist. Jafferi in his contempt petition had contented that the DAG Amjad Iqbal Qureshi had publicly expressed doubts over the legitimacy of the letter.
He said the letter is part of court record and it can check whether it was written by Dr Khan or not. For this purpose the court has been furnished with contact numbers of Dr Khan, he added.
Barrister Javed Jafferi contended in the petition that the two had publicly expressed doubts over the authenticity of Dr Khan's letter submitted to the court and claimed that this amounted to contempt of court. DAG Qureshi had argued that the review was not maintainable and the court had no jurisdiction to hear review in such cases. The court after hearing the arguments of the counsels had reserved the judgement in the case."
