Defence Society Residents Association (DSRA) has demanded of the federal government to annul Nepra's recommendation on power tariff increase. There should be total transparency in any future privatisation process, and all past and present agreements made by the government must be made public, the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of DSRA demanded through a press release issued by Asad Kizilbash, Hon. General Secretary of DSRA on Wednesday.
Residents must not be billed on "average" basis, unless they specifically request to be billed as such, as incidents of fleecing by the KESC have come to the notice, the press release said. DSRA also suggested the federal government that a special court be established at the divisional level where customers could file cases against KESC for claiming compensation for electrical equipment which have been damaged due to high or low voltage.
The DSRA official also said that in case KESC's abuses are not stopped, the residents reserve the right to peacefully protest against these injustices on the streets to press their demands. President DSRA, Captain Haleem Siddiqui, and members of CEC have extended their full support to the residents and businesses of Karachi on an unfair tariff increase.-PR
