A UK-based Kashmiri organisation has welcomed the resumption of trade between the two parts of divided Kashmir after 60 years and termed it as "opening the windows for hearts and minds".
Hailing the resumption of trade between Muzaffarabad and occupied Srinagar, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl, Executive Director, Kashmir Centre London, said it augurs well as it can create an opportunity not only for economic benefits but also opening the other possibilities for further interaction between the people living across the Line of Control (LoC).
"The world we live requires all the people to coexist not only for economic benefits but for peace and tranquillity. If the political will is available for broader reconciliation, this timely confidence building measure will help in strengthening the India Pakistan engagement and carve out a way for honourable peace in the subcontinent and lead to a durable workable and just solution of Kashmir dispute," he said. A number of other Kashmir organisations have similarly welcomed the development and expressed hope this would lead to a more positive outcome and allow the people of disputed Himalayan region to inter-connnect themselves more closely.
