General Moeen Uddin Ahmed, Chief of the Army Staff of Bangladesh, called on President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said Pakistan and Bangladesh were bound in enduring ties of shared faith, history, culture and need to further strengthen bilateral relations in all fields, particularly defence and security matters.
Talking to General Moeen Uddin Ahmad Chief of Army Staff of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister urged the need for enhancing frequent exchange of delegations and high level visits for greater understanding and promoting co-operation in all areas including defence.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction on excellent relations that exist between Pakistan and Bangladesh particularly in defence, trade and people to people contacts. General Moeen said Bangladesh attached high priority to its defence relations with Pakistan and underlined the need for further promotion of these relations as both the countries have strong historical ties and are contributing towards peace and development in South Asia.
He apprised the Prime Minister of ongoing co-operation between armies of the two countries and re-affirmed the desire to enhance understanding and co-operation between the two countries. Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani and High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Pakistan were also present in the meeting.
