A meeting of the Fertiliser Review Committee was held on Wednesday in the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) to review the overall situation of demand and supply of Urea and DAP fertilisers in the country.
Addressing the meeting, the Federal Minister, Minfal, Nazar Muhammad Gondal asked the farmers not to pay more than Rs 635 for a bag of Urea, as the fertiliser is available all over the country at this rate. Any overcharging by the dealer or anyone involved in overcharging beyond the government's given price should be brought into the notice of the government.
The Federal Minister was apprised of the Fertiliser Review Committee meeting that the country has enough fertiliser reserves of both Urea and DAP for the season to meet the local demand of the growers. The ex-Karachi price of DAP per bag is Rs 3050 and Urea will be available at Rs 635 per bag all over the country.
However, the availability of Urea will be further ensured by strictly controlling the trend of smuggling and hoarding. Minfal in this connection has requested all the provinces to co-operate in curbing the menace of hoarding and smuggling.
The proposal of allowing private sector to import Urea also came under consideration and the meeting decided that the proposal will be taken into the next ECC meeting. The Secretary, Minfal and other senior officials of the ministry were also present in the meeting.-PR
