The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) replaced the Multan presiding officer for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections scheduled on October 28. Athar Hasan Shah has been appointed as caretaker president of the Multan High Court Bar Association (MHCBA) with an immediate effect, and will function in accordance with requisitions of the PBC Executive Committee.
According to a PBC statement, the decision to replace Rafique Rajwana was taken after a report by the Multan High Court Bar Association Executive Committee. "It has also been reported that Rafique Rajwana, who was appointed as presiding officer for the forthcoming SCBA elections, had hosted a dinner and openly campaigned for one of the presidential candidates of the SCBA," the statement maintained, adding that changing him was imperative for conducting transparent and impartial elections.
