National Assembly Speaker Dr Fahmida Mirza has said that the war against terrorism cannot be won without widespread support of the nation. She was addressing the passing-out ceremony of Lady Ranger Officers at Pakistan Rangers Headquarters here on Saturday.
Highlighting the role of women, she said that active contribution of women to the national life had raised the profile of the country as "all professions are now open" to them. In this connection she cited women's participation in non-traditional fields such as aviation, engineering, politics and now in Pak Army as Rangers.
She expressed confidence that woman Rangers would carry on this legacy of devotion and selfless services. She emphasised on making concerted and sincere efforts for the progress and prosperity of the country.
Major General Yaqube Khan, Director General, Pakistan Rangers, Punjab, said that the performance and contribution of Pakistan Rangers had been recognised and appreciated not only within the country but also among comity of nations. Pakistan Rangers rightly claim to be defenders of geographical and ideological frontiers of Pakistan both in peace and wartime. He said that Pakistan Rangers were always standing shoulder to shoulder with other law enforcement agencies to maintain peace in the motherland.
"There is no denying the fact that maintenance of law and order in the country is a complex and sensitive issue, which demands a suitable reorganisation and training of law enforcement agencies to enable them to prevent and counter terrorist activities by anti-state elements" he added.
He said that in the present security environments, presence and participation of Lady Rangers is a step in the right direction. He said that on Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) has the honour of being the leading force in South Asia to induct Lady Rangers in its folds and are proud for this landmark achievement.
