District Consumer Court Judge Syed Maruf Ahedali has directed the director general, Pakistan Post, to pay Rs 6,208 as cost of the case and expenses of services within ten days to Muhammad Shahid whose letter could not be delivered to his loved one in England.
The complainant Shahid said that he posted an article through the Pakistan Post from GPO Lahore on November 20, 2007. He alleged that the recipient in England did not receive the article till January 25, 2008. Shahid alleged that due to inefficiency and negligence on the part of the postal department, he suffered mental and pecuniary loss.
Thereafter he served a legal notice to the department but did not receive any reply, so he moved a complaint before the consumer court. The complainant said that he suffered mental as well as pecuniary loss as the valuable document was in envelope which could not be received by his loved one in time and also suffered monetary loss.
He claimed that he was entitled to compensation and damages amounting to Rs 200,000 and refund to the postal charges amounting to Rs 1,208. The judge accepted the complainant plea and directed the department to pay him compensation but held that Shahid was not entitled to any damages as he failed to prove it.
