FWO - A Legend in Nation Building

Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) - a legend in undertaking development projects of national importance and significance, is a self-sustanined Army formation which was established in 1966, with major bulk of its workforce drawn from Army Corps of Engineers, for the construction of Karakoram Highway (KKH).
FWO is governed by a Project Board headed by Engineer-in-Chief, Pakistan Army, with members drawn from the Army and Military Finance. Director General FWO - the technical and administrative head, is also member of the Project Board. Headquarters FWO with supporting units is located at Rawalpindi, whereas five Engineers Groups, the main work engines, having number of Army Engineers and especially designed construction units are deployed in various parts of Pakistan.
FWO has a large trained and expert workforce comprising of qualified officers and men, supported by other requisiste technical staff, for executing varied engineering projects. FWO has one of the largest pool of earth moving and other construction plant, equipment and machinery in Pakistan. FWO, till date, has completed large number of projects worth billions of Rupees. Some of the projects of national importance and significance completed by FWO are:-
NORTHERN AREAS:
Karakoram Highway, KKH Skardu, Astore Valley, Gilgit Gupis, SkarduChilum
Chauki, Thelechi-Astore-Chilum Chauki, Gakuch-Gupis-Mastuj Roads and Access Roads Dubair Khwar and Allai Khwar Hydro Power Project.
AZAD JAMMU AND KASHMIR:
Various AJK Roads including Sensa - Sarsawa Trarkhel, Muzaffarabad - Shardi and Ghori Deolian Roads.
NWFP:
Chakdara Chitral, Haripur Chappar, Barian Nathiagali Abbottabad Roads and DI Khan Mughalkot Road (N-50).
SINDH:
Ratodero-Ghauspur, Ratedero-Shahdadkot, BaberloGhotki, GhotkiUbauro, Road network in Pano Aqil Cantt, Southern Expressway Across China Creek and road network in Defence Housing Authority, Karachi, Construction of Schon Circle Underpass and South Bound of Lyari Expressway.
BALOCHISTAN:
Quetta-Sibi, Zhob-Mughalkot, Dhanesar Mughalkot. Sariab Bypass Quetta, Nuttal Sibi road project, Sibi-Dhadar project and Mekran Coastal Highway (Liari-Ormara Section (248 Kms) and Pasni-Gwadar section (132 Kms).
PUNJAB:
Up-gradation of various urban roads in Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi and recently completed Sector G-13 project Islamabad, Nazim-Ud-din road project Islamabad, City Saddar Road Rawalpindi and Khyaban-e-Iqbal F-10 Islamabad.
AIRFIELDS:
Construction of airfields at Vehari, Rajanpur, Skardu, Bhagtanwala, Mangla, Kohat, Rawalkot, Parachinar, airstrips at Miranshah & Wana and re-carpeting of number of runways etc.
DAM AND IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE WORKS: Construction of Khanpur Dam, Nusrat/Aqil Loop Bunds, Khushab SCARP, Irrigation and Drainage Channels in Rahimyar Khan, Pano Aqil and Multan, orks Drainage Works in Karachi, Rehabilitation of Sukkur Barrage and Water Supply Scheme Jacobabad etc.
THERMAL AND HYDEL POWER STATIONS: Civil Works of Oil Fired Thermal Power Stations at Jamshoro and Muzaffargarh, and an additional unit at Mangla Hydel Power Station etc.
PROJECT UNDERTAKEN ABROAD: FWO has the honour of successfully completing minefield clearance and area proofing in allotted sector in Kuwait after the 1992 Gulf War and Torkham-Jalalabad Road Project in Afghanistan.

FWO is presently engaged in completing various projects of national importance. Some of the important ones include Construction of Road Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad, Besian-Balakot-Naran Road, Battal-Batgram-Thakot Road, Kohala-Muzaffarabad-Chakothi Road, Widening & Remodelling of Road and Intersections of Islamabad Airport, Construction of Flyover at Rahimabad Rawalpindi, Additional Carriageway of Torkham-Jalalabad Road Project (Afghanistan), Wagum Rud Khajrui Road, Gomal Zam Dam Multipurpose Project, Kachhi Canal Project, Upgradation, Widening and Construction of Surab-Basima-Nag-Panjgur-Hoshab Road Project, Design and construction of Halak and Mangi Dam and Water Conveyance System, Lakpass Tunnel Project (as BOT Project), Lyari Expressway project, Construction of Gwadar - Pleri - Jiwani section, construction of Pleri - Gabd (Pak Iran Border) Section, Construction of Khuzdar - Shahdadkot Road Project Section IV project, DHA Karachi, Lahore and projects of Railway & LDA.
FWO has also been entrusted with maintenance / repair of Karakoram Highway and Gilgit-Skardu Road in the Northern Areas. FWO equipped with large pool of construction machinery and men backed by compatible know how, experience and expertise is capable of undertaking multifarious mega development projects, both within and outside Pakistan.
