The Secretary General, Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), Muhammad Arif Alvi has linked the survival and success of Pakistan with restoration of 'Independent Judiciary' and deposed judges including the chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
He said that his party would observe November 3 as black day to protest against the former President, Pervez Musharraf's unconstitutional steps against the judiciary. Talking to newsmen during his organisational tour to Multan, he claimed that the PTI remained in the forefront during the movement for the restoration of the deposed judges from the beginning.
He said that the PTI will take the initiative to restart this movement with a new vigour and he will invite all the democratic forces that believed in the independence of the judiciary. Alvi said that the election of Ali Ahmad Kurd and his panel as the new office bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association has proved that the movement for the restoration of the judges was not over.
Further, he condemned the American attacks on the tribal areas of Pakistan termed it clear violation of the international rules. He also asked the government to end the military operation in the tribal areas. The PTI leader urged the President-elect, SCBA, Ali Ahmed Kurd not to compromise on the issue of Iftikhar's restoration.
'All the political parties willing to make the judiciary independent, would restart the movement for the restoration of the judiciary after November 3 this year,' he said adding that the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) too will join the fight. Alvi further said that the President, Asif Ali Zardari did not want to restore the deposed judges because he feared reopening of his corruption cases.
