Fluctuations were few on the commodity wholesale markets seemingly buying power gradually receding owing to worsening condition in the country while authorities talked about ways to overcome problems during the week ended on November 1, 2008.
The opening day saw uncertainties on the economic front, very few people turned up in wholesale markets to buy even goods of daily needs. Wholesale markets, where most essential items are displayed for others, traders reported neither inquiring about items nor lifting a single grain.
Elsewhere, in Jodia Bazaar some Kirana items were lifted such as black pepper from Singapore down Rs 400 to Rs 10,200, big cardamom shed Rs 200 to Rs 12,400, dry ginger from China rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6000, cuminseed conceded at the close of the markets Rs 300 to Rs 8100, and darchini gained Rs 100 to Rs 4300.
Even the second day's trading depicted few changes on the wholesale markets where on cereal side barley Sindh and Mardan rose by Rs 100 to Rs 2700 while the better type was quoted at Rs 2750 and Irri 6 Sindh, however, seen sharply down by Rs 350 to Rs 2450.
On Wednesday wide-variety of variation on the lower side was reported in plastic mouldings at Jodia Bazaar (per Lb) plastic mouldings HDPE (film) Saudia 952 closed lower by Rs 3 to Rs 56, mobile closed lower by same amount to Rs 56 and TR 144 ended lower by Rs 5 to Rs 54, HDPE injection Sabic 200056 quoted at Rs 68, Mobile 016 down by Rs 10 to Rs 53, HDPE blow Kuwait conceded Rs 8 to Rs 52, Marlex conceded Rs 8 to Rs 52 and Iran closed lower by Rs 8 to Rs 52, LDPE closed lower by Rs 5 to Rs 64, LLDPE W118 ended lower by Rs 7 to Rs 3, 7078 ended lower y Rs 7 to Rs 53, and Sabic 500026 quoted at RS 72, polypropylene film Thai conceded Rs 8 to Rs 53, Kuwait ended lower by Rs 8 to Rs 53, and Saudia closed lower by Rs 8 to Rs 53, polypropylene tape grada India lost Rs 9 to Rs 50, Kuwait down Rs 9 to Rs 50, Saudi Arabia conceded same amount to Rs 50, polypropylene injection grade Saudia conceded Rs 9 to Rs 50, India lost Rs 9 to Rs 50, and Kuwait ended lower by Rs 9 to Rs 50, copoly black conceded Rs 8 to Rs 56, and Random ended lower by Rs 4 to Rs 66 ABS (per bag) to Rs 4,750 and Iran lost Rs 50 to Rs 4650.
Elsewhere makai low type stayed put at Rs 1825, better type rose by Rs 25 to RS 1850, wheat was sharply up by Rs 75 to Rs 2875 while better type was quoted at Rs 2890. Gur shed Rs 100 to Rs 2300 better type was quoted at Rs 3300, cotton seed cakes in Sindh with bag old inferior type was put at RS 820, while the better type was down Rs 20 to RS 830.
On Thursday wheat bardana old and new both types gained Rs 25 to Rs 2900-2915 amid good demand, guwar Sindh lost Rs 150 to Rs 2250-2350 and guwar Punjab also followed suit and shed Rs 100 to Rs 2100-2200. On the grams side bajra low type lost Rs 110 to Rs 1850 and good type was sharply lower by Rs 200 to Rs 2500.
Rates of Jute goods twine closed higher on Jodia Bazar .The changes were:JUTE GOODS TWINE (per kg): 20x3 Brown closed up by Rs 3 to Rs 53, 16x3 CRT/Indus moved upward by Rs 2 to Rs 53, 8x3 edged higher by Rs 3 to Rs 85 and 40x2 Brown went up by Rs 2 to Rs 49.
HESSIAN CLOTH (per 91.44 meter): 45x10 Amin closed higher by Rs 200 to Rs 2400, 45x11 finished upward by Rs 100 to Rs 2500, 50x9 Thul was quoted Rs 2700 and 45x9 ended higher by Rs 100 to Rs 2250.
On Friday there was almost no activity on grain and seeds market, therefore, no price change was reported. This is normal practice on Fridays.
On Saturday wheat old and new bardana was sharply lower by Rs 50 to Rs 2850-2865 during the comfortable supply position. Gram garda Punjab was down by Rs 200 to Rs 3900-4100, yellow peas dal Canada was lower by Rs 100 to Rs 3400-3550, beetle Chana No 1 fell by Rs 150 to Rs 4550-4750, however, beetle 50x50 gained Rs 200 to Rs 4000-4200, dall beetle was up by Rs 100 to Rs 4800-5000 and Bajra low type shed Rs 100 to Rs 1750 while better type did not show any change at Rs 2500.
On Saturday rates of Ceylon raw rubber closed lower The changes were: CEYLON RAW RUBBER (per lb): Merryrub (Equivalent to RSS3) edged down by Rs 13 to Rs 84, RSSV went lower by Rs 12 to Rs 85, Merryrub (Equivalent to Crape) moved downward by Rs 14 to Rs 86 and Pale Crape TPC3 ended lower by Rs 5 to Rs 95.
LATEX: Merrytax (28 kg) finished down by Rs 30 to Rs 650, Semnan Tex moved lower by Rs 30 to Rs 650 and Thai (G.T) went downward by Rs 30 to Rs 650.
