The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) presented awards to the top position holders from the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Part One, SSC Composite and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part One Examinations from across Pakistan.
The three top positions holders for SSC Composite Examinations were: Syeda Iqra Akber from Al Murtaza School, Karachi, who won the first position with 91.53 percent, followed by Mohammad Hasnain Mamdani from Al Murtaza School, Karachi at second position with 90.12 percent. Nihaan Shahzad and Kiran Abdul Rauf from Habib Girls School, Karachi both achieved third position with 90 percent.
In addition to merit certificates these candidates were awarded cash scholarships from AKU-EB. Special awards were also given to candidates in the following categories: Best Overall Results in Pakistan, Best Results in the Sciences Group, Best Results in the Humanities Group and Best Subject Results by Region. A total of 98 awards were presented.
The ceremony, held at Aga Khan University's Stadium Road campus, was attended by Dr Aamir Matin, Country General Manager, Cisco Systems, Pakistan, and President of Aga Khan University, Firoz Rasul, along with dignitaries from the education sector, principals of the affiliated schools, students and parents.
Dr Matin congratulated students for their exceptional performances in an exam which emphasises understanding and application of knowledge and aims to shift focus away from rote learning and selective study. He appreciated the efforts of AKU-EB for its contribution towards improving the standards of education at the secondary school as well as higher secondary school levels by providing extensive teacher training workshops and overall school improvement initiatives. Dr Matin also praised AKU-EB's pioneering e-marking system, which provides strict quality assurance and anonymity in marking, resulting in quick, reliable and transparent turnaround of the results.
Firoz Rasul praised the efforts of students, parents, schools and teachers for taking up the challenge of AKU-EB examinations. He pointed out that as an international university, AKU is committed to upholding international academic standards. AKU-EB is a member of the International Association for Educational Assessment (IAEA) and the Association of Commonwealth Examination and Accreditation Bodies (ACEAB).-PR
