Speakers at a rally organised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) here on Monday vowed to continue the movement till the restoration of judiciary as on November 2, 2007 position in accordance with Murree Declaration and reinstatement of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The rally was organised by the PML-N as a part of 'black day' celebrations to protest against the proclamation of emergency and removal of chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges of the superior courts by former President Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007.
Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa, Begum Tehmina Doultana, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Hamza Shahbaz led the rally, which was taken out from Nasir Bagh to Lahore High Court Chowk. It was participated by the PML-N legislators and workers, who chanted full-throated slogans against Pervez Musharraf and in favour of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. A large number of the PML-N women workers also participated in the rally. Due to the rally, traffic on the Mall was diverted to other roads, which caused great hardships to the motoring public.
Speakers also demanded trial of Pervez Musharraf under Article 6 of the Constitution against his unconstitutional steps so as to stop the way of dictatorship in the country forever. They were of the view that future of the country is linked with independent judiciary, which is necessary for the resolution of problems confronted to the country as well as nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Punjab PML-N president Sardar Zulifqar Ali Khosa said that there would be no prosperity in the country without independence of judiciary. He said, "we will not take rest till the fulfilment of mission of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif who wanted to see Pakistan a prosperous and developed country in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal". He said the PML-N workers had courageously faced atrocities during over eight-year rule of Pervez Musharraf. He further said the PML-N Punjab government is whole-heartedly working for economic uplift of the people of the province.
Begum Tehmina Doultana said in her speech that the country cannot be strengthened without strengthening of institutions. At present, all powers vested on President of Pakistan, therefore, Asif Ali Zardari must tell the nation as to whether there is presidential or parliamentary form of government in the country, she said.
She said the PML-N under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif would continue its struggle for independence of judiciary in the country. Addressing the participants of the rally, Khawaja Saad Rafique asked the rulers to fulfil the promises made with the nation for the reinstatement of deposed judges. He said that only an independent judiciary can help resolve problems confronted to the country. He said, time is running fast, therefore, the rulers must reinstate Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice of Pakistan forthwith.
He further said the people of Pakistan had voted in February 18 polls for rule of law in the country. The government had tried to create rift among the deposed judges by restoring them through a fresh oath, he added. He also said the PPP had forgotten the promise made with the nation for judges' restoration. He also said that judges should be restored under the Mureee Declaration. He said that operation in tribal areas would have to be stopped for improving the image of army.
Hamza Shahbaz said that Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will be Chief Justice of Pakistan, if not today but tomorrow. He said the PML-N would not cause any harm to the federal government because we had laid foundation of democracy in the country. He said that his leader Mian Nawaz Sharif will not take rest without restoring Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry as Chief Justice of Pakistan. Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Pervaiz Malik, Mian Marghoob Ahmed, Barjees Tahir, Naseer Bhutta, Mian Javed Latif and others also spoke on the occasion.
