The lawyer community observed 'Black Day' on Monday across the Faisalabad division as a mark of protest against the action by former president Pervez Musharraf on November 3, 2007. Members of district bar association took out a protest rally in industrial city and also held a general house meeting prior to protest rally.
Protest rally led by Rana Irshad Ahmad, Chaudhry Bashir Ahmad, Ihsan Qadir Bhatti, Chaudhry Muhammad Rafique, Rifat Fatima Kolachi and Uzma Sindhu announced that the objective of the lawyers' movement is restoration of the judiciary to its November 2, 2007 position.
They mentioned that anyone who thinks that the movement has failed with restoration of eight to 10 judges is on mistake. The lawyers would not return back to homes till restoration of the judiciary on pre November 3 position, the lawyers' leaders added.
Lawyers along with the members of different political party staged strong protestation and demanded early restoration of deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry.
Political workers of Pakistan Muslim League (N), Jamaat-i-Islami, Tehrik-e-Insaf and large number of people carried out more than one dozen protest rallies in various part of the industrial city.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) took out two major processions, showing differences between the local leadership. First procession was led by Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Provincial Law Minister and Khawaja Muhammed Islam, and second procession was taken out under the leadership of Chaudhry Sher Ali and Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari MNA. Jamaat-i-Islami took out protest rally from Al-Markaz Islami, Chiniot Bazar, which was led by Malik Muhammad Din ex-MPA, Ghulam Abbas Khan and Mian Khalid Frooq.
Processionist marched on city roads. Lawyers stage a sit-in outside district courts at the end of the rally and boycotted court proceedings in Jaranwala, Samundri, Tandlianwala, Kamalia, Toba Tek Singh, Chiniot and Jhang. Lawyers hoisted black flags and organised protest rallies. Also in other small towns, lawyers protest rallies were also held and they boycotted court proceedings. Lawyers chanted slogans in favour of deposed chief justice and other deposed judges.
