A two-day Korean film festival will start at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) from November 5 as a part of serial events to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Korea-Pakistan diplomatic ties. In the past, the Korean embassy presented variety of Korean films as an effort to introduce some aspects of Korean culture to the people of Pakistan.
An official of the Embassy told that the film festival is organised on annual basis to enrich peoples' understanding about Korean culture and advancement of Korean film industry in April. This film festival is especially linked to Silver Jubilee celebrations of diplomatic ties between Korea and Pakistan.
Korean film titled 'Beyond the Years', a heart-touching love story of Dong-ho. traditional Korean drummer who returns to his childhood village in search of his blind step-sister, will be screened on the occasion. Im Kwon-taek, the director of the movie, is famous for producing films that reflect the emotion and feeling of the Korean people.
He won good number of domestic and international film festival awards as well as considerable box-office success and helped bring international attention to the Korean film industry.
Released in April 2007, Im's 100th film, 'Beyond the Years' is an informal sequel to Sopyonje and in November 2007, the French government awarded Im the French Legion of Honour. A horror film 'The Host' directed by Bong Joon-ho would also be screened on the first day of the festival.
