Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Multan chapter has welcomed the Chief Minister Punjab's announcement regarding enhancing the remuneration of Post graduate doctors, house officers to Rs 22,500 and Rs 18,000 respectively. However PMA demanded fixation of PGRs salaries at Rs 26,000.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday PMA leaders Dr Salman Waris, Dr Shahid Rao, Dr Saud-ur-rauf Hiraj, Dr Waseem Rabbani, Dr Kashif Chishti, Dr Najam Jamshed, Dr Shakil Faiz, Dr Abdullah Qureshi, Dr Imran Rafiq, Dr Asif Gurmani, Dr Sajid Imami, Dr Tariq Shaikh and Dr Aftab Chaudhry said that they had called off their protest and they are thankful to the Chief Minister for releasing the doctors of Services Hospital Lahore.
Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam has said that 50 per cent increase in the salaries of young doctors by Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has delighted the doctors' community. He said that on the directions of the chief minister Punjab, the government was ensuring provision of health facilities to the people free of charge in the government hospitals.
The minister further said that Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was personally looking after the interests of doctors' community and effective measures had been taken to solve their problems. Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif also assured the young doctors that in future recruitment of doctors would be made on regular basis.
Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam maintained that since the demands of the young doctors had been accepted, there was no justification for launching the protest. Punjab Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs Dr Tanveer-ul-Islam urged the doctors to perform their duty with a sense of serving the ailing humanity.
