General Tariq Majeed, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), has said that Pakistan is looking forward to work with America under the renewed environment of bilateral co-operation to deal with the challenges stemming out of militancy.
He was talking to General David Petraeus, Commander USCENTCOM and Richard Boucher, Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, who called on him at Joint Staff Headquarters here on Monday. General Petraeus held wide-ranging discussions with CJCSC, General Tariq Majeed on matters of mutual interest between the two countries and other avenues of military co-operation.
They also exchanged views on current security environment of the region. General Tariq emphasised that there is a need for developing long term relationship based on mutual trust, transparency and understanding of the complexity of the region keeping in view the local perspective. He further stressed that the two countries should evolve consensus strategy to deal with violent extremism.
