Director General, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Qamar-uz-Zaman Chaudhry has indicated high intensity aftershocks to continue in quake-affected areas of Balochistan during next five days. Talking to PTV, he said the frequency of aftershocks would be decreased within four or five days.
Meteorological Department has established four field seismic stations in quake-affected areas that assess micro-seismicity and record minute aftershocks for data compilation, he informed. Meanwhile, National Seismic Network was established during last week. All stations are very powerful and record earthquakes wherever it comes in South Asia, he said. National Seismic Centre located in Karachi, issues warning of Tsunami.
The centre stores all data and issues warning and instructions in case of such calamity and generates messages within few minutes, he added. In quake-hit areas, rain is not expected during next few days but temperature has reached at freezing point with prevailing cold spell. Further, the temperature will remain between -2 to -5 degrees centigrade in these areas, he forecast.
