Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) in collaboration with National Centre of Excellence in Geology (NCEG)), University of Peshawar has started training course on 'Gemology' at the premises of NCEG Peshawar from November 05 (Wednesday). The two-week course, which is being attended by 20 participants, will be conducted by Syed Ilyas Ali Shah, a gemologist of PGJDC.
Participants of the course would learn gem classification by origin such as Corundum Group, Beryl Group, Garnet Group and some other important gems. They would learn visual observations such as how to separate a mix lot of red stones, how to separate diamond from its stimulants, how to check assembled gemstones, how to use and prepare gem identification work sheet.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company, Fawad H. Khan in his message on the occasion has said that participating in gemology training course would be highly beneficial for the participants of NWFP due to their mountainous surroundings that have hidden gemstone treasures.
Short courses and training programmes underline the commitment and efforts of PGJDC in developing the gems and jewellery industry of the country. Such steps taken by PGJDC are proving to be instrumental in enhancing the skills and capacity of the sector from mine to market.
At present, most of the people do not follow the proper procedure for the gems identification and do not use basic instruments. The course will be of great opportunity, and if someone keep on practising it in future and further enhance their capabilities in gem identification, it will lead them to the gem classifier. At that stage they can also start and adopt their own business of gemstone also.-PR
