Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has announced to hold protest demonstration and take out rallies on November 9, 2008 across the country against unfavourable agriculture policies of the government. Kisan Board demanded of the government to immediately extend subsidy on fertilisers, electricity, diesel and agricultural otherwise farmers and the whole agricultural sector would be ruined.
President, KBP Sardar Zafar Hussein Khan also criticised the statement of Prime Ministers adviser on Finance, Shaukat Tarin that agriculture would be brought under tax net. He said that farmers were already living under poverty line. On one hand government was giving Rs 27 billion subsidies on fertilisers, Rs two billion subsidy on green tractor scheme and Rs 2.5 billion for seed and agriculture loan, while, on the other it was talking to bring agriculture under tax net. He said that this show dual policy of the present government and it was anti-farmer policies.
