Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q), central leader and former Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday said that the present government has pushed the agriculture sector at the verge of destruction due to its anti-agriculture policies.
He said this while addressing the meeting of PML-Q legislators, office bearers and ticket holders from Sargodha Division here on Tuesday. Elahi said, "It would be great injustice with the farmers and country, if the government accepts conditionalities of international financial donor agencies and imposes agriculture tax." If the government makes this decision it would cause great harm to the country, which would not be able to stand on its feet, he opined.
He said that farmers are being terrified instead of giving diesel, fertiliser and electricity on subsidised rates. He further said that the government instead of announcing relief package for price hike stricken people rather has announced a "mega ministries package", which caused unrest among the countrymen. Elahi further said that the rulers in Punjab instead of announcing new projects of public welfare are getting credit of developmental projects initiated during the PML-Q tenure.
On one side, the government had restricted funds for under construction projects, while on the other hand revengeful activities are being carried out against the officers responsible for causing delay in the completion of these projects.
Moreover, he accused the provincial government of backing out from promises made with the people before during elections. He further said that 60 per cent work on Thokhar Niaz Beg flyover was completed during the PML-Q rule and the Punjab rulers first tried to delay it and now making efforts for getting credit of this project. They cannot hoodwink people through such acts, he added.
He said that his party would continue to play the role of strong opposition and party organisations at every level would be strengthened. The PML-Q legislators, office bearers and ticket holders from Sargodha Division expressed full confidence in the leadership of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and all conspiracies aimed at weakening the party would be foiled.
They expressed deep concern over escalating price hike, aggravating law & order situation and rising unemployment in the country. Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, PML-Q Punjab women's wing President Shahana Farroqi and Raja Basharat were present on the occasion.
